We are looking for a Generator Field Service Mechanic who is at the beginning stages of their working career. Any previous training of any type or mechanical aptitude would fair well in this role. Preference is to see someone from a critical facilities / data center market along with formal training / Certificate and experience from a tech school, apprenticeship, Military, or community college. Bachelors degree is a plus but not something that we are screening out for or that is realistic.
This position would require regional travel so a valid driver’s license is a must. Candidate will also have to pass a background check as some customers that the position will be supporting will require a background check to enter the building. Job is based in Santa Clara, CA. Candidate must have basic knowledge of electrical and mechanical components.
Scheduled maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of standby power equipment to include both electrical and mechanical systems and maintenance a complete inspection of the control panels as needed
Diagnose / troubleshoot, disassemble engines and examine parts for defects and excessive wear
Repair and Service for both routine and emergency service on a variety of state of the art critical systems such as: diesel generators, gaseous generators, etc
Troubleshoot and work independently onsite at customer’s location and perform quarterly, semi-annual and annual maintenance.
Mechanical and Electrical maintenance to include greasing bearings, changing hydraulic oil and filters and clutches
Will also be required to replacing electrical components such as relays and sensors when needed.
Read and review single line diagrams / wiring diagrams
Work on a flexible work schedule, work on call as needed and respond to emergency calls as needed
Maintain a constant state of readiness
Create field service reports, complete site checklists required during the annual maintenance.
Entry level -4 years of data center / critical facility experience a plus
Generator operations / maintenance / repair experience a plus
Previous experience servicing: CAT / Caterpillar ; Cummins ; Generac ; Kohler ; a huge plus
Mechanically inclined a must
Formal training / Certificate and experience from a tech school, apprenticeship, Military, or community college a must
Solid Understanding of Critical Electrical and Mechanical / HVAC equipment as it relates to Generators a plus
Client Facing / Customer Service Experience
Punctual and service driven
Solid Acumen for using a laptop as it pertains to receiving correspondence as well as service tickets (computer savvy)
Clean driving record
Strong verbal and written communications skills
Willingness to learn and travel when required
Be able to work flexible hours when needed
Travel to outside region if needed as well including Mexico and Canada if needed.
