Director of Data Center Connectivity

Director - Data Center Connectivity - Ashburn, VA

Responsibilities:
  • Lead all aspects to obtain connectivity (“design”, scheduling, and provider inputs) for new projects, from feasibility (development connectivity strategy) through contract execution and delivery (i.e. lit fiber)
  • At the appropriate time transition concept to Construction Managers for execution of the connectivity strategy
  • Support the Market Development and Solutions Engineering teams during market evaluations and sales opportunities, coordinating closely with customers and stakeholders at their direction
  • Provide thought and team leadership, while being accountable for team results on all connectivity projects, assignments, and initiatives, including budget, schedule, and coordination with internal and external project stakeholders
  • Ensure company has sites that meet customer network requirements, working closely with the Market Development and Solutions Engineering teams; KMZ creation and upkeep in existing and new markets
  • Long haul evaluation and schedule development with cost certainty for last mile
  • Acquisition of dark fiber to facility to ensure that any/all customers can light up day 1
  • Negotiate carrier agreements and drive costs down while ensuring dark fiber is on prem day 1
  • Own building designs for campus conduit routing as well as inter- and intra-building routing including MMR/POE layout
  • Provide construction budget inputs based on carrier relationships for both demarc and loop extensions
  • Coordinate with Design Innovation to = drive telecom OPR requirements and global telecom standards
  • Customer Fit Out support by creating in-region relationships with structured cabling contractors
  • Experience with connectivity in different global regions preferred, but not required
  • Network with key telecom carriers and cultivate relationships with core providers nationally and regionally
  • SME support of the Construction team during Consultant/Vendor/Contractor qualification, network management/expansion, and new technology evaluation for use on current and future development opportunities
  • Keep abreast of new technologies, products, and opportunities to innovate using concepts from within and outside of the data center industry to gain an edge on future deliveries
  • Provide technical support wherever needed (prepare technical material for presentation to prospective customers (RFPs) and support marketing to outline connectivity strategy)
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in connectivity from a large-scale delivery standpoint; 15 years preferred
  • Solid understanding of data center ecosystems as well as knowledge/network of the key providers, with a recognized degree in computer science or equivalent preferred
  • Strong IT skills: ability to use multiple communication tools and packages essential
  • Demonstrably strong negotiation skills
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills at all levels of the organization and with other stakeholders and third parties such as suppliers
  • Flexible, adaptable, and self-directed; able to work in a variety of circumstances, e.g.: remotely, while travelling, across multiple time zones, cross functionally, by project, etc.
  • Travel required on a regular basis in 2022 (25%+)
  • Previous experience in the Military / Military Veterans a huge plus! Experience with Electrical / Mechanical:  Navy nukes - EMN, ETN, MMNs, SeaBees, Army - Power Generation, Air Force – Power Production, Generator Techs, Maritime, Coast Guard, Army National Guard, etc.
