Controls Engineer - Data Center Construction - Columbia, MD This position is also available in: Ashburn VA.
The Controls Project Engineer will be responsible for interpreting project plans, specifications and coordination of all engineering. Applies an intensive and diversified knowledge of complete BMS / BAS - design, commissioning / testing, and maintenance of operations once systems go live.
Responsibilities
Support the Project Manager and act as eyes and ears onsite
Complete assigned projects
Coordinate and facilitate communication including and not limited to operations turnover, application engineering, programming, and field execution
Comprehension and implementation of project specific control sequences and related scope
Coordinate with BAS application engineers to develop / translate shop drawings in AutoCAD, submittals, databases, programs, and graphical interfaces
Understands controls / process
Provide quality assurance of engineering packages prior to submission. Must have the ability to modify packages as necessary before and after submission to customer
Understanding of the scope of work, ability to read and interpret project plans and specifications
High level understanding of end user standards and requirements. Maintain those standards for all scope and the life of the project
Proactively communicate technical issues to project managers and more senior level technicians as well as contractors and subcontractors
Collaborate with the Project Manager to forecast revenues and re-estimate project costs as it relates to project execution
Support the project team by performing specialist and subcontractor coordination to maintain the project schedule and working relationships with other jobsite contractors
Maintain redlines, and coordinate field markups from the project team and submit As-Built documents
Coordinate and maintain commissioning requirements for third party commissioning and testing
Coordinate and manage the check-out, start-up, and commissioning activities to ensure the system is functional and complete
Mentors junior engineers on the team
Take part in solutions-based discussions with owners and project stakeholders
Attends and contributes to project meetings when needed
Analyze potential risk issues that may prevent project from moving forward
Support a performance-based culture, both team and individual, to assure continuous improvement and alignment with enterprise vision, mission, and objectives
Maintain an open/honest dialogue and involvement with all team members that demonstrates the value of their input and engagement in improving performance
Strive for high performance and accountability in employee and site safety as well as other aspects of the business
Assist PM with Critical Facilities Construction Project plans – size up, costs, scheduling, timeline
Maintain liaison with primary client, A/E firm, Owner's Rep firm, and other vendors for design and construction activities and be responsible for communication of information among all project team members
Assist in establishing project objectives, policies, procedures and performance standards
Assist the preconstruction effort as it relates to Project Engineering
Qualifications:
Preferably 3-5+ years’ experience with BMS / BAS Controls
Rockwell experience a plus
AutoCAD a must
Familiarity with the design process of building systems for data center and mission critical projects a plus
Experience with writing programs in any of the following systems (JCI / Johnson Controls, Metasys, Siemens, Schneider, Honeywell, Automated Logic, etc.)
PLC / ALC Programming Experience
Experience with critical hvac equipment (Chillers, Air Handlers, CRAC / CRAH units, Boilers, etc.)
Have a moderate understanding of building construction methods, HVAC Controls, electrical systems as well as mechanical systems
Able to execute HVAC Controls, Building Automation Systems projects with high level of contract and project complexity
Demonstrated ability to thoroughly understand drawings and specifications, general contract and subcontract documents, materials, means and methods
Utilizes hand tools and test equipment to perform work
Requires excellent verbal, written communication skills & customer relation skills
Must be able to provide high level of quality customer service
Must be able to complete Field Service Reports within a timely manner
Requires knowledge of equipment manufacturer’s specifications (OEM Specs)
Ability to work independently and resourceful with good initiatives
Technical degree or bachelor’s degree a plus
Previous experience in the Military / Military veterans in all branches that have experience with Electrical / Mechanical is a huge plus (Navy nukes- EMN, ETN, MMNs, SeaBees, Army - Power Generation, Air Force – Power Production, Generator Techs, Maritime, Coast Guard, etc.
US born citizens only as candidates need to be clearable
Not a traveler role as once design / construction is complete, candidate will remain onsite for support and provide ongoing design upgrades
